HARUOMI IZUMI

Born in 1979 in Chiba, Japan Lives and works in Chiba, Japan

Internationally acclaimed painter Haruomi Izumi was born in 1979 in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Continuing the tradition of Nihonga (Japanese-style painting), Izumi’s aesthetic revolves around the use of vivid mineral pigments and pattern to capture luminous views of nature. His latest works stray away from traditional Nihonga norms and instead combine surreal color with obsessively repetitive patterns of plants and trees to create deeply textured scenes that encompass their surroundings and engulf the viewer with their richness. Izumi’s masterpiece using this signature style, Yukoku (The Scarlet Hour) was a featured work in SEIZAN Gallery New York’s inaugural exhibition Nihonga: Contemporary Art of Japan, in 2018.
